You will engage in Kuchipudi (a classical Indian dance form) and Devadasi Nrityam (a traditional temple dance) to explore rhythm, expression, and storytelling through movement. You will practice emoting freely, using dance as a medium to connect movement with inner emotions.
This practice enhances emotional awareness by encouraging free expression through dance, helping release suppressed emotions. Engaging in rhythm and storytelling fosters a deeper connection between body and emotions, making self-expression more natural and uninhibited.
Dedicate time to dance sessions, focusing on movements that engage your senses and emotions. Observe how your body responds, gradually integrating reflective practices to deepen self-awareness through movement.
Yashoda Thakore is an accomplished Kuchipudi and Devadasi Nrityam artiste, renowned for her innovative classicism. She trained under prominent gurus like Padmasri Shoba Naidu and Vempati Chinnasaytam. She holds a Masters' in dance and a Doctoral degree in Yoga and Dance. Yashoda translated the 13th-century Sanskrit treatise on dance, NṛttaRatnāvali, into English and authored the book "Kaivalya-Joy in Yoga and Dance." She is currently a professor of dance and runs her institute, Rinda Saranya Kuchipudi Dance Academy, where she empowers her students with the nuances of Kuchipudi tradition and encourages research in dance.
The Natya Shastra, attributed to sage Bharata Muni, is a Sanskrit treatise on the performing arts, dating back to a compilation between 200 BCE and 200 CE, providing comprehensive insights into the field.
