Ancient & scientific relevance

Ancient texts that refer to this

Hatha Yoga Pradipika: While mainly focused on Hatha Yoga, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika also touches upon Raja Yoga, especially in the context of how Hatha Yoga practices can prepare the body and mind for the higher practices of Raja Yoga. It is a bridge between physical practices and the meditative and philosophical goals of Raja Yoga.

Upanishads: Various Upanishads, which are part of the Vedanta philosophy, discuss concepts that are integral to Raja Yoga, such as the nature of the self (Atman), the ultimate reality (Brahman), and the importance of meditation in realizing the unity of Atman and Brahman.

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras: This is the most authoritative and foundational text on Raja Yoga. Composed by the sage Patanjali, the Yoga Sutras detail the Eight Limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga), which are considered steps on the path of Raja Yoga. These steps include ethical standards, self-discipline, posture, breath control, withdrawal of the senses, concentration, meditation, and absorption.
