You will learn 12 cycles of dynamic body movements derived from Bharatanatyam—a classical Indian dance form, blended with yoga postures and breathing techniques, practiced at three speeds. This unique combination enhances body awareness and breath control, rooted in traditional Indian art and yoga.
This practice improves flexibility and agility as the dynamic movements stimulate the body, while controlled breathing aligns physical and mental energies.
Dedicate 30-40 minutes daily to practice the combined movements of Bharatanatyam and yoga with focus on breathing and rhythm.
Kanaka Sudhakar, a disciple of the legendary Bharatanatyam couple VP and Shanta Dhananjayan, recipients of India’s Padma Bhushan award, is a visionary dancer, teacher, and researcher. Her unique offering, Natya Kriya, blends the physical movements of Bharatanatyam with elements of yoga, creating a transformative practice that bridges tradition and wellness. Through extensive research, she has explored the therapeutic benefits of Indian classical dance on the mind and body, culminating in her acclaimed book, Indian Classical Dances – The Therapeutic Advantages. As the Founder-President of SUNAINA (Society for the Upliftment of National Arts of India), Kanaka has promoted "Art for All" and "Women Empowerment through Arts" through training, research, and education. Her institute, Nrityabharati, has trained over 1,000 students, many excelling as ICCR and Doordarshan performers. Kanaka’s work has redefined the role of classical dance as a tool for holistic development, inspiring individuals to embrace its profound physical, mental, and spiritual impact.
The Natya Shastra, attributed to sage Bharata Muni, is a Sanskrit treatise on the performing arts, dating back to a compilation between 200 BCE and 200 CE, providing comprehensive insights into the field.
Bharatanatyam, as recognized by the Natya Shastra, promotes the wellbeing of practitioners by combining precise movements, expressive gestures, and spiritual connection, engaging both the body and the mind to foster physical and emotional wellness.
